How Long Does It Take To Elect A Senator?

This is ridiculous!

Our national elections occurred on November 4, 2008. Two months later, the citizens of the Great State of Minnesota are still waiting for the results for the U.S. Senate race between incumbent Norm Coleman and challenger Al Franken. Right now, Franken supposedly leads Coleman by about 50 votes. Officials are still counting votes by hand to come up with the final tally.

What year is this?

Even after a final result is announced, court challenges will likely follow, to determine, among other things, why thousands of absentee ballots may have been rejected erroneously. Is anyone in charge in Minnesota?

To add fuel to the fire, the Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee – John Cornyn – is making overtures that Republicans will threaten a filibuster to block Democrats from seating Franken if he is announced the winner.

Fun, fun, fun – gotta love politics.
