Detective Sgt Randy F Pfau said the 54-year-old woman was arrested early Sunday after reporting two men had broken into her home in Brant Township, 130km north-northwest of Detroit.

Pfau said the woman told deputies the men fled after one of them demanded her marijuana plants. He said the woman then was booked on charges of manufacturing and delivering marijuana.

Pfau told The Saginaw News the woman claimed the drug was for personal use but didn’t possess a medical marijuana card. He said police will seek charges pending test results on the marijuana they did confiscate.

Jonathan G. Parker, 19, of Fort Loudoun, Pa., was arraigned Tuesday one count of felony daytime burglary.

According to court records, Deputy P.D. Ware of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department responded on Aug. 28 to the victim’s home after she reported the burglary.

She told police that someone had broken into her home through a bedroom window.

There were open cabinets in her garage, and other signs of a burglar.

The victim later noticed that the intruder also used her computer to check his Facebook status, and his account was still open when she checked the computer.

It turns out that in eight states, plus the District of Columbia, getting beaten up by your spouse is a pre-existing condition.

Under the cold logic of the insurance industry, it makes perfect sense: If you are in a marriage with someone who has beaten you in the past, you’re more likely to get beaten again than the average person and are therefore more expensive to insure.

In human terms, it’s a second punishment for a victim of domestic violence.

In 2006, Democrats tried to end the practice. An amendment introduced by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), now a member of leadership, split the Health Education Labor & Pensions Committee 10-10. The tie meant that the measure failed.

All ten no votes were Republicans, including Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming), a member of the “Gang of Six” on the Finance Committee who are hashing out a bipartisan bill. A spokesman for Enzi didn’t immediately return a call from Huffington Post.

At the time, Enzi defended his vote by saying that such regulations could increase the price of insurance and make it out of reach for more people. “If you have no insurance, it doesn’t matter what services are mandated by the state,” he said, according to a CQ Today item from March 15th, 2006.

Robert Zirkelbach, a spokesman for an insurance industry trade group, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), said that the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has proposed ending the discrimination. “The NAIC has a model on this that we strongly supported. That model bans the use of a person’s status as a victim of domestic violence in making a decision on coverage,” he said.

It’s too bad. More than any other, the word fiasco sums up the sheer, mind-boggling, Godzilla-scale vomit of graffiti that now covers the concrete walls of Shaw Millennium Park, along with every pole, pipe and surface within reach.

If it was just vandalism, it’d be despicable. But the vandalism at Calgary’s skateboard park was all but endorsed by the city, which supplied the paint, but not the supervision.

Over the course of two days, a pack of paint-wielding hooligans attacked the blank canvas that was the spiral Landmark building at Millennium Park, turning it into a masterpiece of mayhem and myopia. What started as art ended up as a hideous eyesore.

If it’s a testament to the sheer tenacity of the vandals with the cans of spray paint, it’s a monument to the blind stupidity of the grown-ups who left “young urban artists” alone to decorate a public park.

“They destroyed the fricking park — they graffitied the hell out of it. They tagged the entire fricking park,” said Ald. John Mar, barely able to contain his anger and outrage at the mess, and a clean up bill estimated at between $30,000 and $60,000.

At least the Ward 8 alderman kept his cool, and stuck to “fricking” when talking to a family newspaper.

The family of 37-year-old Antonio Love has filed a formal complaint over the incident on Friday.

Police tell the Press-Register of Mobile that officers shot pepper spray under the bathroom door after knocking several times. After forcing the door open, they used the stun gun on Love.

Police spokesman Christopher Levy says police didn’t realize Love had a hearing impairment until after he was out of the bathroom. The officers’ conduct is under investigation.

The newspaper says the officers attempted to book Love on charges including disorderly conduct, but a magistrate on duty wouldn’t accept the charges.

Would you pay almost $14,000 to hear a local band play a cover version of Tom Petty’s hit “I Won’t Back Down”?

Randy White might, and he’s not happy about it.

White’s problems began Aug. 10, 2007. It was a Friday night, and a crowd came to his club, called Randzz, to drink beer, play pool and maybe listen to the band.

At least one person listened – closely. The band’s playlist, which included hits by Stone Temple Pilots and Bob Sege r, got that person’s attention.

About 10 months later, several music publishers filed a lawsuit against White, accusing him of copyright infringement. They argued that he was allowing bands to play copyrighted songs without their permission or the proper license. In late May, a federal judge ruled in their favor.

White said he plans to appeal. “I just don’t feel I’m responsible for it,” he said. “They should be talking to the bands.”
