Neato! 2010 olympic medals to be made from old circuit boards

Technabob – It’s already pretty awesome to get a gold medal. Really – it means that for at least one day, you were the best in the world at something, and there’s no arguing with that. But Olympic medals have become increasingly more beautiful, too, and the medals for the 2010 Vancouver winter games are no exception… and it doesn’t hurt that they’re made from old circuit boards!

The medals all feature work by Canadian artists Corrine Hunt and Omer Arbel, and are each laser-etched with a unique design so that no two of the games’ medals will be the same. But perhaps most interestingly, the medals are made from materials reclaimed from used electronics. All that gold, silver, and bronze used to be running something… and now it’ll all be part of some of the biggest and heaviest medals in Olympic history.

The medals are also not flat, but instead move and rise, a design said to spring from the undulating land of Vancouver.

Streaker charged with interrupting a professional sporting event. Defense lawyer asks for charge to be dropped because it was a Mets game

1010wins – Prosecutors say a streaker who disrupted a New York Mets game by jumping onto Citi Field naked except for a stuffed monkey tied around his waist has pleaded not guilty to trespassing charges.

Craig Coakley was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of interfering with a professional sporting event. His lawyer says he posted $1,000 bail and will return to court June 11. Coakley apparently told police after his arrest that it was a bet, and his boss said he’d pay a week’s salary.

Prosecutors say the 38-year-old plumber was sitting in field level seats around 8 p.m. Tuesday night when a security guard saw him take off his clothes and put the stuffed monkey around his waist and jump onto the field.

The Mets beat the Braves 3-4 in 10 innings.

Congratulations Florida. You proved me wrong.

I’m not going to say much. I was dissappointed in Oklahoma’s loss but Florida played a good game. It was still very entertaining and a great match up to watch. But in the end they outplayed Oklahoma and in turn won fair and square.

With College Football coming to a close tonight and two Heisman Trophy winners facing off. Tonight’s game will be great.

As a Sooner I hope this goes in the record books. Sam Bradford is amazing and Tim Tebow is too. This is a great match for a Championship Game. I just wish I was in Florida right now.

After receiving the Davey O’Brien Award last night Bradford has only one more night before his chance to become the 5th University of Oklahoma Heisman winner. Here is an excerpt from Ivan Maisel from ESPN.com

Heisman attribute
He has the arm. He has the intellect. He has the numbers. But what separates Sam Bradford from his peers is his pulse rate, or lack thereof. He is cooler than Vince Chase. It’s not that Bradford has shown the poise in a last-minute rally; Oklahoma hasn’t needed one. It’s that nothing rattles him. He slices up defenses with a surgeon’s acumen. Like most patients, defenses can’t do anything about it.

Heisman moment
The Leap. First of all, it was a mistake. Bradford should have slid or stepped out of bounds. Instead, he leaped for the end zone late in the third quarter of the Oklahoma State game, and a pair of Cowboys knocked him up and out of bounds. Bradford sailed wide of the mark as if he were a member of, oh, Iceland’s Olympic team. But the athleticism and desire that leap showed captured who Bradford is. It captured the nation, too.

Why Bradford should win
There are two schools of thought in Heisman voting. Some people like to vote for the player who accumulates statistics by the shipload. Some people like to vote for the player who led his team to top of the rankings. With Bradford, one size fits all. He is on the verge of setting an NCAA FBS record for passing efficiency, and the Sooners are playing for the crystal football. The redshirt sophomore is the Heisman Everyman.

As a born and raised Sooner I wish Bradford the best tomorrow and on Jan 8th on his march into college football history.
