Apple might be planning keynote for week of September 7th, might have new products on offer

Engadget – We’re hearing “multiple sources” are now reporting that Apple is most likely planning a keynote event — possibly for the week of September 7th. There’s also the requisite murmuring that one Steve Jobs may make an appearance — though of course, there’s also nothing more solid than wishes and fairy dust to back that one up. As far as possible product launches go, well, there have been significant whisperings about upcoming iPod / iTunes developments as of late, including the company’s reported dealings with major record labels. This would fall in line with Apple’s habit of releasing iPods every fall, and we’ve heard plenty about upcoming iPod touches which boast, among other things — a camera and microphone. Daring Fireball has also reported that these bad boys will come in 16, 32 and 64GB varieties running $199, $299, and $399, respectively. In more salacious gossip, there’s the possible Apple tablet we’ve been hearing about, but there’s no solid word on any products for now. We’ll be watching this one closely, we assure you.

Alleged Snow Leopard screenshots and video

TUAW – Mac Magazine has posted (English translation) what they’re claiming to be several screenshots and videos of Snow Leopard, the forthcoming major update to OS X. Some of the goodies on display include a slider that allows you to adjust the size of icons in a Finder window (much like iPhoto does), new Stacks behavior and a peek at Quicktime X, which has a black border in this build.

In the video above, we see some cool smart quotes, smart dashes, smart dates (add to iCal; view date in iCal) and auto-correction of spelling erros.

We first saw screenshots last year, and Apple issued a code freeze on the APIs last week. I, for one, am looking forward to this tidied up version of Leopard.

CNBC Hearts Apple

TUAW.com – A panel on CNBC’s Fast Money was recently remarking on AAPL’s apparent invulnerability to the recession that’s currently affecting the United States, noting that it’s jumped 40% so far this year, outperforming the NASDAQ. J.P. Mark of Farmhouse Equity Research suggests that the excitement that persists among Apple’s retail employees customers is a part of that performance.

As for the stock’s immediate future, the panel and Mr. Mark point to this summer’s concurrent release of iPhone OS 3.0 and a likely new iPhone model as a powerful stimulus. Finally, Mr. Mark notes that it isn’t often that an electronic gadget becomes more useful and valuable over time.

I definitely agree with that. My iPhone is now almost two years old and it does much more than it did when I first opened its box. Also, if a new iPhone does appear this summer just as my current contract is expiring, I’ll almost certainly buy it.

Apple announced some great new features for iPhone OS 3.0 on Tuesday, ranging from Push Notifications, micro-content in applications, and even copy and paste. There are plenty of things Apple did not announce at its event, however. Ars explores what features have yet to arrive in iPhone OS.

iPod Shuffle 3G just days after release gets an exciting new addon.

Here’s something pretty cool if you managed to pick up one of those new shiny iPod Shuffles this week.
It’s not available just yet but if you are looking to replace the clunky USB adapter that comes with the shuffle this may be what your looking for. And for just $10 dollars that’s a steal.
I see laptop users getting more use out of this adapter for their music syncing/recharging needs.

Future Watch: Macworld 2009

So Macworld has come and gone and as this is the last Macworld..ever.. some exciting news did come out of the otherwise lowkey event.

Just to run down the list quickly iTunes will get new pricing. Starting in April their will be three price points of $0.69, $0.99, and $1.29 that will be chosen by the music company. And by the end of the year all 10 million songs in iTunes libaray will be offered DRM free.

Also for the iPhone iTunes will work over the 3G network and not just WiFi for all your music access while on the go. I for one welcome that.

iWork and iLife have been revamped with numerous upgrades and in the hardware department there is the new 17″ Macbook Pro.

Overall it was okay but nothing stellar. There were rumors about a new upgrade for the Mac Mini and new iPhone and iPod Touch. But I guess we will have to wait later in the year for any of that.

One funny thing happened during this event. Macrumorlive.com got hacked during its blog of the event. It was so bad at one point the whole system came down and after a few hours their main site was working again. I can only guess that their system is a windows server and not a mac server.
