Apple store in Chicago unveils the only version of windows that won’t crash even when bricked

TUAW – Police say an inebriated man threw a brick at the front window of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile Apple Store on Tuesday night. The man also broke another window a short distance away.

A Tribune photo shows a single broken panel of glass in front of one of Apple’s “giant iPhone” displays. From the photo, it looks as if the brick did not go through the glass, and the display appears unharmed.

Robert Grilly, 61, of Chicago was booked on two misdemeanor counts of criminal property damage, Chicago PD said.

Phil Spector found guilty of murder. Crime against hair-manity dropped.

CNN.com – After about 30 hours of deliberation, a jury on Monday convicted music producer Phil Spector of second-degree murder in the death of actress Lana Clarkson more than six years ago.

Wearing a black suit with a red tie and pocket square, Spector showed no reaction as the verdict was announced. Now 69, he faces a sentence of 18 years to life in prison when he is sentenced May 29.

Rapist requests death penalty because he fears getting raped in prison

Seattlepi.com – A Seattle man who’d admitted to raping two women at Myrtle Edwards Park was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday.

Speaking in King County Superior Court, Galvan-Hernandez pleaded with Judge Julie Spector to have him executed rather than send him to prison.

In a turn characterized by Spector, without humor, as “ironic,” Galvan-Hernandez begged not to be sent to prison where he believes he will be raped.

“I prefer death a thousand times over being raped,” said Galvan-Hernandez.

A thief who used a frozen chicken as a tool to break into a cafe was caught after he cut his wrist and was forced to phone an ambulance, Australian police said on Wednesday.

They were stolen from a protected area of Loch Sligachan where a farmer had exclusive rights.

David Oakes, from Sconser, has now offered a £1000 reward for information leading to a successful prosecution.

He said: “A lot of the top restaurants want the really big scallops.”

He added that protected areas attracted thieves because divers and dredgers had caused over-fishing.

Chicago Sun Times – Phillip Binder was angry about $2 he said his brother owed him.

So angry, the 33-year-old man stabbed his older sibling to death in front of other family members in their South Side home, prosecutors said.

Phillip Binder first approached his brother Charles outside their home in the 2000 block of West 70th Place, questioning him about the debt early Tuesday morning, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Mike O’Malley said at Binder’s bond hearing today.

Once the two were inside, Phillip Binder took a large knife from the kitchen and plunged it once into his 35-year-old brother’s chest, according to O’Malley.

After the stabbing, Phillip allegedly told his aunt: “You’re lucky you didn’t die too,” O’Malley said.

The best part? This was over a debt for a crack pipe. I had no idea crack pipes costed so much.

Recordonline.com – Sheriff’s deputies and investigators have broken a heroin distribution ring that dished out narcotics across more than half of Sullivan County in New York.

The alleged dealers were pushing a variety of heroin that they called “Obama.” Chaboty said dealers are known to stamp the glassine wax paper that carries the heroin with brand names — like “Black Death” or “Blue Sunshine” — so that users can identify their preferred brands. This drug ring’s stamp happened to carry the new president’s surname.

In Jacksonville, Florida a man was arrested after a Wal-Mart employee called police in reference to a “drunken dispute.”

According to the police report, the officer got to the Wal-Mart before 1 a.m. Monday, and an employee said a man was locked in the bathroom drinking Listerine mouthwash.

The man refused the officer’s order to come out of the bathroom, so the officer went in. He found that that ‘minty fresh’ man had locked himself in a stall and was on the floor continuing to drink the mouthwash.

The officer forced the stall open, and the man then tried to drink the rest of the mouthwash.

Obviouslly the man was then arrested and taken to jail.

These are hard times for all, but seriouslly I know you can get a 40 of malt liquor for about a dollar at 7-11.

Governor Blah-Goya-Vich still goes on acting like nothing has happened.

AP – Embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is still conducting state business even though there have been numerous calls for him to resign and a request was made to the state Supreme Court to strip him of his powers.

His office released a statement today that said he had signed a bill that would give insurance coverage to parents of children with autism.

Just hours earlier, Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan asked the state Supreme Court to prevent Blagojevich from serving as governor.

He was arrested Tuesday on federal corruption charges.

Lawmakers also have demanded that Blagojevich be impeached.

He has defiantly ignored the pressure, showing up for work every day since his arrest.

Police say a man drove into the dealership and rammed vehicles with his 2007 Mazda pickup truck, then drove through the front entrance way and began urinating on other parked vehicles.

He returned to his truck, grabbed a bottle of champagne and a glass and climbed onto the truck’s roof.

While there, the man was observed committing an indecent act and proceeded to throw objects at a witness.

Police arrived and arrested a suspect without incident.

A 36-year-old Hamilton man is charged with mischief over $5,000 and committing an indecent act.
