For months, Sony’s (SNE) management has been taking an ax to its operations. Back in December, as the yen’s unfavorable surge and a drop-off in global demand for electronics wreaked havoc on Japan’s tech industry, Sony announced that it would slash costs, eliminate 16,000 jobs and close a handful of its 57 factories around the world. A month later the electronics and entertainment company was at it again, adding asset sales to boost its savings.

In a statement Tuesday, Electronic Arts, the world’s largest video game developer, announced that it was forced to lay off about 1,100 employees and close 12 facilities worldwide to streamline its business operation and cut operating expenses by $500 million to prepare for uncertain economic times.

Logitech announced their third-quarter earnings (down 70 percent) and simultaneously said it’s going to lay off 600 of its employees, while the guys over at Intel have said they’re shutting down a manufacturing facility in the Philippines which houses 1,800 employees. Sony vaguely announced a “restructuring” which is bound to result in misery and job loss, while Sega confirmed that “about 30″ people have been erased from the pay sheet.

While I hope things will change and soon this isn’t good news to start the new year.
